As of July this year, the Brunei Intellectual Property Office (BruIPO) already received 57 patent applications, compared to 20 and 27 in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
March was the month receiving the most applications, 14, according to the BruIPO's patent journals. Other than that, eight applications were received for each month in January, February and April.
BruIPO is the country’s IP administration in Brunei and was moved from the Attorney General’s Chambers to the Brunei Economic Develpment Board (BEDB) in June 2013.
In a previous statement, the BEDB said that the move was partial efforts to improve policy coordination and enhance the efficiency of Brunei’s IP administration.
