Syria’s Industrial and Commercial Property Protection Directorate will be managed under the newly established Ministry of Interior Trade and Consumer Protection, according to a statement from the Damascus-based SMAS Intellectual Property law firm.
The new ministry, which emanates from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, was established by legislative decree, the firm says. The Industrial and Commercial Property Protection Directorate handles all intellectual property matters under Syrian laws.
At the same time, Syria has announced that fees in respect of patents, utility models and layout of integrated circuits increased on August 1, 2012. The new regulations have distinguished between individual and company applications, giving reduced fees for persons who are applying to protect their inventions.
