BEIJING (MAY 16, 2015) - Yong Li, president of LES China, says that there is enormous room for the development of licensing in China as he opened the annual conference at China World Hotel.
“The Chinese government is fostering a national policy called “mass entrepreneurship and innovation". Over recent years patent and trademark applications in China have seen rapid growth. Specifically, last year China's patent applications for invention amounted to 1.1 million and the number of trademark applications was 2.6 million.
“Meanwhile, a consensus has developed among Chinese governments at various levels as well as domestic enterprises and innovators about the urgency of converting innovation and intellectual property into assets and values to drive national economic development and enterprises’ profits,” Li says.
He hopes that the event, with the theme of “booming licensing on the silk road”, can move the East and the West closer through exchanges of knowledge and views and collaborative efforts.
“It is an excellent occasion not only for our fellow members and colleagues to learn about the latest trends in licensing, but also for the Chinese practitioners and their international counterparts to exchange views and experience with each other,” Li says.
James Sobieraj, president of LESI, also spoke at the opening ceremony in front of 500 IP professionals from 43 countries and regions.
“In the last 22 years the growth of the economy, innovation and intellectual property rights has been nothing short of staggering,
2016 is good time for IP licensing professionals, from around the world to convene in Beijing to take note of the current state of intellectual property protection, enforcement and commercialisation, and trends for the future,” he says.
The LES International Conference will take place until May 18, with more than 100 IP experts set to deliver speeches and workshops to share their knowledge and experience on a wide range of topics.
