JPO Plans to Register Sound, Moving Images

The Japan Patent Office plans to accept applications to register sound and moving images as trademarks, The Yomiuri Shimbun reported on December 5.
Japan has lagged behind other countries, including the United States, Great Britain, Germany and Australia, in registering sound and moving images, and has received requests from companies overseas asking it to do so. According to the newspaper, the JPO plans to submit a bill the 2010 Diet session to revise the Trademarks Law.
