Japan plans to collaborate with Malaysian game developers

Bandai Namco, a Japanese video game publisher, wants to work with Malaysian game creators. According to Shuhei Banya, chief operating officer of Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia, the company would also help Malaysian artists create creative works and intellectual property.

“We possess the necessary expertise and foundation, having had many rounds of conversations with Virtuous Kuala Lumpur and Passion Republic, two Malaysian game developers. This will benefit us in the future should we decide to work together,” said Banya in a statement. “We manage a dynamic workload that changes based on the stage of development. It would be fantastic if we could collaborate with these businesses, Virtuos Kuala Lumpur and Passion Republic, and support one another.”

After eight years in operation, Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia is considering creating games or other material with localized or culturally relevant themes. Banya added: “The collective hopes to produce goods that appeal to both adults and children. Our primary goal is to create engaging, enjoyable games that foster global connections – not just with individuals in certain areas, but with people everywhere, including Malaysia.”

Bandai Namco’s collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is its largest to date. The group will also take part in the LEVEL UP KL 2024 event.
