Fake clothes worth HK$480,000 seized in Central

Customs officers have seized counterfeit clothes worth almost half a million dollars from a storehouse in Central and arrested three men suspected of supplying them to hawkers in the area.

In a raid to a storehouse and a mobile hawker stall operated by the group, investigators said they seized 9,400 pieces of counterfeit products worth about HK$480,000. This is the first time that a counterfeit storage has been unearthed right at the high-end commercial area.

The Divisional Commander of the Intellectual Property General Investigation, Phoebe Wong, said the group may have chosen to operate in Central despite high rent, because of transport convenience.

She said the clothes are believed to have been made on the mainland, adding they are of low quality. But Wong said the department has yet to ascertain how the products were transported to the SAR.
