Counterfeit Goods Worth P63 Million Seized In Mall

The National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR), which has 15 members aconfiscated P63 million worth of potential counterfeit items inside a mall in Metro Manila, Philippines.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of 755 phony Louis Vuitton items. The action is part of the NCIPR's effort to get this mall removed off the US Trade Representative's (USTR) list of Notorious Markets for Counterfeiting and Piracy. The retail complex is the country's only market included on the list.
Following the raid, the NCIPR met with officials from the management group to discuss and consider joint methods to eliminate counterfeiting in the halls.
In accordance with the Memorandum Circular No. 2020-124 on IP protection issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), an NCIPR member, each barangay and city is also urged to develop and execute an Anti-Counterfeiting and Anti-Piracy Policy (ACAP).
The DILG circular urges all provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays to pass an ordinance prohibiting the sale, transfer, manufacturing, and/or production of pirated, counterfeit, and imitation goods, as well as following the guidelines of the Optical Media Board.
