Coats Thread Lanka Launches Anti-counterfeit Campaign
12 November 2012
Embroidery and sewing supplies company Coats Thread Lanka (CTL) has launched a campaign to remove counterfeit CTL products from the Sri Lankan market, according to local media reports.
CTL markets the Anchor embroidery brand, which is targeted primarily at craft enthusiasts, and consumer sewing brands Sun and Astra.
In a press release, CTL sales and marketing manager Suranjith Swaris said that the threat of counterfeits for the Sun brand was at its peak during in 2007 and 2008. “We have been vigilant and working with the law enforcement authorities to counter this threat by organising periodic surprise raids based on information received from the public. Guilty parties have been brought before Court and duly fined. As a result of this, several parties have had their stores duly checked and all counterfeit products removed from their hold.”
As part of its efforts, CTL has established a telephone number for customers to call if they find any items which are not original Sun brand thread. It has also asked retailers to be careful when buying stock.
“We are confident that with the support of our thousands of loyal customers, we will be able to eradicate all Coats counterfeit items during this year,” Swaris said. “As we work towards achieving this end, we are also keeping a vigilant eye on all retailers and wholesalers in the market and will take drastic action where necessary.”
