Covington & Burling Has Opened A Shanghai Office

Covington & Burling has opened an office in Shanghai, its third in Asia, following the opening of offices in Beijing in 2008 and Seoul in late 2012. The firm now has 20 lawyers resident in these three offices.

“Our Shanghai office enhances our practices in life sciences and technology transactions, FCPA, capital markets, M&A and securities in China and places those capabilities in the heart of one of Asia’s most dynamic business centers,” said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm’s management committee.

The Shanghai practice will be led by partners Weishi Li and Eva Wang. Li’s practice covers a wide range of intellectual property and technologyrelated transactions across multiple technology sectors, including the life sciences, healthcare, and hi-tech industries. She has extensive experience assisting multinational companies and Chinese companies in structuring and negotiating crossborder IP and technology-related transactions such as licensing, strategic alliances, joint ventures, distribution and OEM relationship.
