After serving in the Korean government for more than 11 years as a patent examiner and as a negotiator for numerous international treaties, including the PCT and WTO/TRIPS, Seong-Ki KIM began his private practice in patent and trademark laws in 1991. And in 2015, Mr. Kim joined Lee & Ko and established the IP prosecution partnership, Lee & Ko IP.
Throughout his professional career, Mr. Kim was involved in a broad spectrum of patent prosecution and enforcement cases. He represented clients in IP disputes involving technologies of polymorphisms, new salt of known chemical entities, and new formulations of pharmaceutical products. Mr. Kim is also well-versed in patent prosecution, having prosecuted patents related to a wide variety of technologies, including OLED materials, secondary batteries, and semiconductor materials processing technologies. Further, Mr. Kim successfully represented clients in electro-chemical, petrochemical, and agrochemical industries before the Korean Intellectual Property Office, IP Tribunal, Patent Court, and Supreme Court.
Moreover, Mr. Kim has extensive experience in IPrelated policy issues. He was instrumental in drafting statutes and regulations for implementing multiple patent claims system, structuring Korea’s access to PCT, granting patent claims on chemical compound per se, establishing post-grant revocation of patent, and creating a new appellate procedure before the Patent Court. In addition, Mr. Kim is actively involved in advising the Korean government on IP-related issues with respect to the free trade agreements.
