India has long pursued an independent IP rights agenda – from encouraging generic pharmaceutical producers to blocking genetically modified crops. Recently, the country has also passed a slew of legislation to bring its regime up to international standards. Although enforcement remains weak and courts are hamstrung by daunting caseloads, IP experts believe India is on the right track. George W Russell reports from Bangalore.
